Anthony spent her life working to win women the right to vote. She traveled the country giving speeches, and in 1872 she was even arrested for voting before it was legal for women to do so. She did not live to see it, but the 19th Amendment, which gave women the vote in 1920, grew out of the movement she helped lead. It is sometimes called the “Susan B. Anthony Amendment.”
