The judicial branch is the country’s system of courts. At the top sits the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land. Beneath it are the lower federal courts, which include the courts of appeals and the district courts where most federal cases begin.

The job of these courts is to interpret the laws and decide whether they follow the Constitution.
